How can you be considered for a B.N. Duke Scholarship?
APPLY to Duke University!
All residents of North and South Carolina who apply and are accepted for undergraduate admission to Duke University are automatically considered for the award. There is no separate application and no financial need component. If you are hesitant to apply because of the cost, please reconsider. In addition to this and other merit scholarships, Duke University has recently expanded need-based financial aid, which is highlighted here http://dukefinancialaid.duke.edu/newsupport/.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for exceptional, well-rounded students who have shown some evidence of leadership and commitment to improving the common good. B.N. Duke Scholars often follow the beat of a different drummer, leading outside the traditional avenues available to high school students. They embody our program’s core values of community, empathy, intentionality, and imagination, but do so in diverse and individualized ways.
What is the selection process?
High school seniors who have applied for admission to Duke University, and been accepted, become part of the selection pool. Finalists for the scholarship are then notifiied and invited to Duke’s campus for Finalist Weekend. During the weekend, they have the opportunity to meet current scholars, the other finalists, and the staff and faculty of Duke University. On the basis of their general applications, interviews, and other components of the weekend, scholarships are awarded. This year's selection process resulted in awards to eight members of the Class of 2015.
